JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, a NCAA Division I and Big Ten Conference Institution, is seeking a Golf Course Superintendent to oversee Penn State's 36-hole public golf course and varsity practice areas totaling 300 acres. This position reports directly to the General Manager of the Penn State Golf Courses and is responsible for the following:

  • Oversee the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plantings, trees, shrubs and ponds on Golf Course Grounds.
  • Determine daily course needs and supervise work.
  • Determine agronomic needs of the course and create a plan to address deficiencies or problems.
  • Establish general and specific work assignments for employees in accordance with conditions and priorities in an efficient manner.
  • Supervise/inspect work in progress to verify performance standards are met.
  • Answer questions and exchange information with employees to maintain an understanding of methods, procedures, materials, etc. are needed to complete work.
  • Oversee the operation, repair and maintenance of all mechanical and motorized equipment used to maintain Golf Course Grounds.
  • Develop annual operating budget plan to address regular maintenance and capital improvements as needed.
  • Prepare, verify and complete reports, records, purchasing, payroll, and personnel forms.
  • Ensure safe working conditions exist, including the operation of equipment and use and storage of pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Responsible for programs and compliance with local, state, and national safety regulations.
  • Interview,hire, train, and supervise technical-service and wage payroll employees.Ensure compliance with Union-University Agreement.

Additionally, the successful candidate must display excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a demonstrated commitment to integrity, inclusion, and diversity and an understanding and commitment to student-athlete well-being.

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher, and 8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of supervisory experience . Preferred degree in Turfgrass Science. Requires Pennsylvania State Pesticide Applicators License.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Due to the financial and fiduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$97,100.00 - $145,700.00
