Position Overview

Riverside Research is seeking a dynamic, strategic, operational, and growth focused Deputy Director to oversee successful execution and expansion of numerous program portfolios within the Commercial Innovation Center (CIC). The CIC is a research and development center designed to evaluate and accelerate the adoption of commercial technologies to achieve strategic mission impact at speed and scale for our Nation's defense and intelligence communities. As Deputy Director for the Commercial Innovation Center, you will oversee pursuit activity and provide personnel and program management on contracts and opportunities across the DoD/IC, with emphasis on DIU, NGA, USSF, NRO, SDA, DARPA, and the service labs. Responsibilities will include a substantial focus on growth as well as managing existing R&D contracts, group budgets, and CIC personnel. The Deputy Director will be responsible for leading a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary and geographically dispersed team with concentrations of staff members located in the D.C. metro area; Dayton, OH; Mountain View, CA; and Austin, TX.



Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

    Provide technical direction, leadership, and management oversight across a diverse portfolio of customer funded research and development programs, to include developing portfolio roadmaps and growth plans
  • Foster and participate in a collaborative environment for multi-disciplinary research and development
  • Pursue and grow business with the DoD/IC, with particular emphasis on growing new opportunities and contract expansions with DIU, NGA, USSF, NRO, SDA, DARPA, and the service labs
  • Supervise, manage, and mentor subordinate managers and team members
  • Provide project management support for customer funded research and development efforts and help define and implement long-term strategies for the group
  • Assist in developing and accurately maintaining financial goals, revenue projections, overhead budgets, and business development opportunity pipelines
  • Lead government and commercial engagement activities for the CIC, working directly with government clients and commercial partners to translate mission needs into realizable program requirements and proposed solutions
  • Communicate cross-functionally with other Riverside Research groups and business units to identify and help implement organizational and operational efficiencies
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, program management, or related field
  • 15+ years of experience leading the design, development, and transition of R&D and defense innovation solutions in one or more of the following areas: GEOINT and SIGINT collection and processing, commercial remote sensing, AI/ML, analytics extraction, human systems, space domain awareness, hypersonics, high performance computing, embedded systems, and in support of other emerging strategic and tactical defense applications
  • Direct experience working with and defining product or go-to-market strategies for commercial companies, ventures, startups, innovation hubs
  • 5+ years of experience managing complex engineering and research and development programs
  • 5+ years of experience managing large teams of subject matter experts and engineering, analyst, and program management personnel
  • Ability to supervise others and lead projects and deliverables within a collaborative and cross-functional environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ensuring customer goals are met satisfactorily
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance

Preferred Requirements:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree
  • Project, Program Management, or PMP certifications and experience
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph


Global Comp

$190,000 - $250,000 This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
