Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Administrative Director, the Nurse Manager oversees the clinical operations of the Primary and Multi-Specialty Care Clinic at UCSF San Mateo. The Nurse Manager will provide and organize clinical support for faculty within the practice and take the lead role in integrating all aspects of the clinical session to ensure timeliness and efficiency of each patient visit. S/he works with the leadership team to identify opportunities for improved practice operations through the oversight and participation in projects. S/he works with staff to develop, monitor and maintain systems pertaining to all aspects of nursing care. S/he supervises all clinical staff, facilitating positive interactions among staff, patients and other departments within the organization.

The Nurse Manager maintains operations and facilities in a state of constant readiness for regulatory inspections. S/he is repsonsible for assuring licensure, competency and skills training and documentation for all clinical staff. S/he serves as a liason to Ambulatory Nursing Administration to introduce new quality guidelines and to meet new standards. S/he is responsible for overseeing ordering of supplies and medications for the practices.

Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, etc.), Registered nurses, Licenced Vocational Nurses and Medical Assistants will report to the Nurse Manager.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $130,800 - $274,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

UCSF San Mateo Primary and Specialty Care Clinic is a clinical site that offers Primary Care as well as Adult and Pediatric multi-specialty services. There are core specialties located at this site 5 days per week - these include Cardiology, Developmental Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Hepatology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Physical Therapy, Prenatal Diagnostics and Pulmonology.Radiology is located on site and provides basic plain film and ultrasounds services. The clinical staff includes Medical Assistants, Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioners, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and Registered Nurses.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of clinical experience
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of progressive supervisory/management experience
  • Strong clinic / center patient care management skills. Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology. Broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services
  • Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making
  • Strong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management, and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration
  • Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments
  • Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and delegate work functions efficiently

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry
  • Master's Degree
  • PALS - Pediatric Advance Life Support
  • Registered Nurse Board Certified

License/Certification


  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California and/or licensure in relevant clinical specialty
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
