Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Job Description
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology invites applications for a non-tenure-track (NTT) teaching professor for our cooperative mechanical engineering program with Missouri State University (MSU) in Springfield, Missouri. The S&T/MSU engineering program provides a BS degree in mechanical engineering with courses delivered on the MSU campus. The successful candidate will be stationed in Springfield on the MSU campus. The Springfield metro area has a population of 487,000, with excellent school systems and many opportunities for entertainment. Candidates must demonstrate their ability to successfully teach, organize and execute laboratory and lecture-based instruction in mechanical engineering with a focus on control systems. Broad teaching strength in other fundamental areas of mechanical engineering is desirable. The typical teaching workload is three to four courses per semester. The successful applicant will also be expected to sustain and contribute to development and growth of the cooperative mechanical engineering program through innovations in teaching and relevant service. NTT teaching faculty at Missouri S&T start at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, and are eligible for promotion to Associate Teaching Professor and Teaching Professor. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will achieve a sustained level of recognition by students and peers as a stimulating, inspiring and effective teacher, as well as develop excellence in the production of effective learning materials, improved teaching techniques, and state-of-the-art delivery systems. A Ph.D. in mechanical engineering (or a closely related field) and an ABET/EAC accredited undergraduate degree in engineering, or equivalent, is required for this position. Successful prior teaching experience will be an important consideration, and industrial experience is also desirable. Superior communication and interpersonal skills, leadership capabilities, the ability to motivate and inspire students are also required attributes. Professional Engineering licensure is considered a positive for the applicant, although not required. Application Materials
