CAS is currently seeking an Organic Chemist on our Content Operations team. This position is located at our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

Position Summary:

The Organic Chemist applies scientific expertise, analytical skills, problem solving capabilities, and relevant language skills to help build CAS's world-class collection of reaction data. They leverage their expertise to curate high-quality research data from chemical literature in their area of scientific expertise and across a diversity of scientific domains. The incumbent may also provide scientific and content knowledge, capabilities, insights, and solutions for other CAS functions.

Job Accountabilities:

The Organic Chemist analyzes, collects, and curates the valuable chemical reaction data disclosed in scientific literature, utilizing CAS Reactions indexing policies and their expertise. Leveraging their technical knowledge and applicable language skills, they extract key insights and build the CAS Content Collection. Specific responsibilities include reaction analysis of chemical literature with reaction content and indexing those reactions in a production environment.

Qualifications:



  • An advanced degree in organic chemistry. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree with 1-3 years of related work experience.
  • Japanese, Korean, and/or Chinese language skill is desired, but not required.
  • Excellent scientific reading comprehension and writing skills.
  • Strong learning aptitude, including the ability to quickly learn and apply complex scientific concepts, policies, and technology tools. Ability to apply learnings to new situations and to glean relevant insights.
  • Solutions focused with an aim towards continuous improvement and growth.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications. Aptitude and interest for learning and using various web-based and/or proprietary computer applications including, but not limited to video conferencing, instant messaging, and document sharing software.
  • Ability to proactively collaborate, communicate and share knowledge with peers with diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong work ethic
