Commodity Specialist

Summary of Position:

In support of all Leonardo Helicopters geographical locations negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers, manage new bids, supplier sourcing and selection, building supplier and category strategies, work in close contact with key stakeholders including Engineering, Customer Support and Program Management departments to manage the contractual aspects of new developments/improvement of existing arrangements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage strategic sourcing of new equipment and/or parts against specification, drawings and programs requirements
  • Support selection of new suppliers and lead negotiation of appropriate contractual frame works
  • Support new customer programs bidding activity
  • Supports the Category Strategy definition to support business needs - technological, financial and Program
  • Achieve cost reduction targets
  • Negotiate Terms and Conditions/pricing contracts that support business requirements
  • Drafting of appropriate bespoke contractual frame works to support complex acquisition, design, development, and qualification programs
  • Supports strategies to procure commodities in regional and global markets
  • Supports and consolidate business relations
  • Aid in keeping project cost-effective by controlling costs and enhancing benefits
  • Supports strategies to encourage high levels of supplier performance
  • Collaborate with and advise Category and Purchasing manager on required issues
  • Act as point of escalation for significant supplier issues

Qualifications for Position:

Education

  • BA/BS in business, supply chain or related area required. Experience within the Defense/Aviation Industry is a plus

Experience

  • 5 years of Working experience in Manufacturing / Aerospace industry
  • Four years minimum of relevant procurement or commercial experience with proven examples of:
    1. Bid and sourcing experience based on both technical and commercial requirements
    2. Performance improvement against core objectives (e.g. cost reduction, schedule adherence, lead time reduction, etc.)
    3. Negotiation of agreements and management of Procurement contracts (Long Term Agreement, Design and Manufacturing Agreement)
    4. Management of complex, high value contracts, including management of the programs design and development

Competencies & Attributes

  • Ability to read and understand basic drawings and BOM.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to influence internally and externally and solve problems proactively
  • Advanced team working skills and capable of coordinating multi-functional team activity
  • Working knowledge of SAP or comparable ERP system and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven ability to work in international markets
  • Able to work under pressure on multiple tasks and meet customer deadlines
  • Able & willing to travel alone or as part of a team, locally and internationally
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

Licensure/Certification

ISM or APICS Certifications a Plus
