What this role will be like:

The Space Management Specialist plays a pivotal role in optimizing and enhancing the efficient use of physical space at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (TJNAF). This position combines the principles of architecture or interior design with analytical skills to create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces that enhance productivity and functionality. The Space Management Specialist develops and serves as the domain expert for space standards and policy, conducts space utilization surveys, and participates as a team member on facility condition and functionality assessments.

In this role, you will perform:


  • Space Management: Develop space management policy and guidance, oversee management and technical policy requirements, and resolve space policy issues
  • Space Planning: Collaborate with customers to understand space requirements, workflow, and organizational goals. Develop and implement multi-year space plans that optimize the use of available space while considering aesthetics, functionality, and compliance with building codes.
  • Layout Design: Create detailed layout designs, floor plans, and 3D visualizations to illustrate proposed changes and improvements to the workspace. Ensure designs align with brand and culture.
  • Furniture and Fixtures: Select and recommend appropriate furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) to support design concepts and meet ergonomic, functional, and sustainable acquisition needs. Handle procurement and installation processes.
  • Space Utilization Analysis: Continuously assess and analyze space utilization data to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement. Make data-driven recommendations to optimize space allocation.
  • Project Management: Lead or participate in space-related projects, including office relocations, renovations, and expansions. Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Customer Communication: Collaborate with various departments and teams to gather input, communicate plans, and address concerns related to space management. Act as a liaison between customers and the design/construction teams.

Qualifications We Require


  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or closely related technical field
  • 4 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in space planning and management, preferably in a corporate or commercial environment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, or Revit
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of building codes, workplace standards, and safety regulations
  • Able to give effective presentations to general audiences and write convincing proposals and reports with all vital backup material for consumption
