Essential Job Duties
The North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies ( NCICS) is seeking a student intern with expertise in environmental epidemiology, biostatistics/statistics, environmental sciences, or population-based health research.

Project work will involve developing a climate data inventory, including valid data products for tornadoes, hurricanes, extreme temperatures, flooding, and air quality relevant to public health planning, early warning, and policy-making. The intern will perform variety of activities, including:

  • Assisting in the development of analysis-ready climate datasets that can be used by the public health community, and
  • Performing epidemiologic analyses that explore a single and multi-hazard framework for how climate change impacts population health, with a focus on the most at-risk subgroups.


To perform effectively in this position, candidates must be experienced in statistical modeling and the use of SAS, R, or Python statistical software.

Currently enrolled in a post-secondary academic program and actively pursuing a degree in public health, environmental science, statistics, epidemiology, or related field.
