GENERAL FUNCTION

The Production Technician is responsible for the set-up, operation, and basic maintenance of equipment within the assigned area for work task/job in surface or finish portions of lab production.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Perform all aspects of laboratory production within the assigned area, including the following:
  • Proper, efficient, and productive use of Lensometer instrument for purposes of lens product inspection respective of basic lens power requirements
  • Ability to perform equipment maintenance including but not limited to wheel & motor/spindle change.
  • Ability to interpret "Special Rx's" and with assistance from the supervisor
  • Translate Rx requirement into finished product commensurate with production area.
  • Assist supervisor in maintaining and managing shop supply inventories.
  • Ability to troubleshoot production problems leading to unacceptable spoilage, production slowdowns, and sub-par product quality/service. Advise supervisor of potential issues and offer possible solutions.
  • Prepare all solutions for the wash process (when applicable). Make sure daily supplies are stocked.
  • Based on the area of assignment, the Production Technician will be also responsible for specific tasks:
  • Interpretation of Rx work ticket
  • Perform production operations on specified equipment following established procedures.
  • Perform basic/routine maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and advise supervisor on possible remedy.
  • Specific tasks include but not be limited to:
  • Lens wash & surface/cosmetic inspection.
  • Tool Cutting and selection/replacement.
  • Equipment set up for daily production in accordance with UPS.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and quarterly calibration of equipment and maintenance of calibration log sheets as directed by area supervisor and following established divisional operation procedures.
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of the lab to ensure the understanding and the proper application of company policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Maintain work area and common areas of department in a neat, clean, and organized condition.
  • Understand and follow all company and laboratory policies and procedures and assure compliance with all attendance & safety rules and regulations. Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary information.
  • Willingly assist others as necessary to keep work current, meet deadlines or maintain an even workload. Cooperate with other employees and demonstrate a good attitude. Perform an acceptable quantity and quality of work on time as required.
  • Provide proper training, work direction, and technical guidance for less experienced employees. Attends in-house or sponsored training meetings when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • This position requires exposure to one or more hazardous substances/chemicals which requires safety training.



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of laboratory work experience
  • Ability to multi-task, orient to detail and operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic high school level math skills required.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job, including close vision and color vision
