Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field and at least two years of full-time experience in a similar functional area is preferred. Experience in supervising, budgeting, event management, advising student organizations, and leading collaborative efforts is preferred.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Leadership reports to the Associate Director of Engagement, Leadership, and Service. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing, implementing and promoting a broad portfolio of leadership initiatives that facilitates engagement by all students and is grounded in current research on student learning and development. The Assistant Director also provides strategic leadership, and overall supervision for the leadership unit within the Department of Engagement, Leadership & Service in support of the University's academic mission and the strategic priorities of Student Affairs and UGA. The Assistant Director serves as a valuable resource for the UGA community and serves as a thought leader in the areas of student leadership development.

Duties/Responsibilities
Student Leadership Development:

  • Direct and facilitate the successful execution of the leadership agenda for the department including oversight of Leadership UGA, the Student Leadership Conference, and requested leadership workshops.
  • Serve as a consultant and content expert on integrating leadership principles into existing and new initiatives.
  • Create and maintain leadership development resources and materials to be shared broadly with student organizations and departments through the ELS website and other outreach efforts.
  • Coordinate assessment efforts of leadership development initiatives in alignment with university competencies.

Duties/Responsibilities
Administrative Duties and Management:

  • Provide strategic vision, leadership, and direction to the leadership unit within the department.
  • Actively promotes and participates in the development, retention & engagement of the Senior Coordinator for Leadership and Graduate Assistant for Leadership.
  • Oversees and ensures financial compliance for student activity fee funds as well as support for leadership-affiliated private funds in excess of $50,000.
  • Facilitates annual scholarship processes allocating over $100,000 per year and applicable donor stewardship activities.
  • Engage in department, division, and university meetings and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Serves as the primary advisor to the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society to include assisting with the operational success of the organization and oversight of their expenditure of funds.
