Salary range:
The salary range for this position is $83,600-$108,500. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See Professor and Professor of Teaching Series - Academic Year Regular Scales. "Off-scale salaries" and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Position description

The Department of Film and Media Studies at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Theory/Practice or Media Production.

Theory/Practice may be broadly conceived in terms of theoretical frameworks and medium of expression; candidates should demonstrate research-informed practice and/or creative scholarship. Candidates demonstrating commitment to theories of media and social power and/or media cultures of the Global South are especially encouraged to apply.

Media practitioners should have a strong creative portfolio and demonstrated public impact or screening/exhibition/distribution history. Candidates demonstrating commitment to community expression-including underrepresented stories and voices -are especially encouraged to apply. Experience teaching the key competencies/skills of film production and/or professional contacts in industry, public, or independent media sectors desired.

Candidates who bridge theory/practice and media production are especially encouraged to apply.

All applicants must demonstrate potential for excellence in scholarship/creative work and in teaching a range of core and elective courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

MFA in Film Production (or related field) or Ph.D. in Film and Media Studies (or related field) is required; candidates with both MFA and PhD degrees preferred. Degrees must be completed by June 30, 2025.
