Job Description

The University of Missouri's Biochemistry Department seeks an experienced Research Specialist II for the Dr. Curtis A. Nutter research lab.

The Research Specialist II will conduct research studies in RNA regulation, membrane transport, neurological development and genetic diseases. This position requires expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell culture, and knowledge in supporting a productive research lab.

Duties include but are not limited to:
This person will work closely with the principal investigator to enhance research activity in the lab, including performing research experiments and facilitating other lab members research projects. Performs cell culture maintenance and experiments. Performs standard research protocols for RNA and DNA analysis, with recommendations for improvements as necessary. Performs quality control procedures to maintain research productivity. This person will assist the principal investigator in specific/basic training for new members of the laboratory, as well as assist in administrative responsibilities such as ordering and receiving lab supplies. They will also help maintain basic stocks, organization, and maintenance of the laboratory. Optionally, they can assist in maintaining the laboratory's mouse colony.
Generate high quality data worthy of publication in peer-reviewed journals, and analysis of data using standard practices. Research results will be reported regularly in group meetings and can optionally be presented at major scientific meetings and seminars. Data will be recorded in a notebook in compliance with the highest level of scientific data quality and integrity.

Shift

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

A master's degree and prior research experience in a related field. Cell culture and/or animal research experience, plus three years of research laboratory experience.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $18.50 - $28.00 per hour
