Job Description:

Equipment engineering technician interns will learn semiconductor equipment maintenance, and assuming successful work performance, they will be eligible for a full-time position as an Equipment Technician III upon completion of their degree program. Offers of full-time employment are also contingent on Microchip business need and work performance.

Under general supervision of experienced technicians and equipment engineers, interns will learn to:

  • Read, navigate, and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Use of hand tools and common test/measurement equipment to calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair equipment.
  • Disassemble, adjust, and repair equipment according to maintenance specifications and technical manuals.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment to monitor equipment performance, diagnose root causes of errors/faults, and make reliability improvement recommendations.
  • Work safely with systems that contain radiation, electrical, mechanical, liquid, and gas hazards.
  • Apply mechanical and equipment knowledge in a wide variety of electrical, pneumatic, and robotic systems.
  • Present issues and solutions to the group. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Be a self-starter who can effectively plan, re-prioritize tasks, and ask for help when needed.
  • This is a safety sensitive position

    Requirements/Qualifications:

    Required Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in an acceptable educational program with an end goal of achieving an associate degree or bachelor's degree of science. Associate or Bachelor of Science with emphasis in Electrical Engineering (ASEE/BSEE) are preferred.
    • Available to work a flexible schedule of at least 24 hours per week and at least 8 hours per day.
    • Creative thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
    • Competence in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook).
    • Strong organization, documentation, verbal, and writing skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Ability to work 12-hour Compressed Work Week (CWW) shifts full-time during summer.
    • Ability to apply theoretical/textbook concepts in practical, real-world applications.

    Essential Physical functions and working conditions:

    • Must be able to lift 75lbs
    • Work in a full PPE gown, gloves, and face shield for long periods
    • Work on a 6-foot ladder
    • Bend, stretch, and contort to repair items on the tool
    • Work bent over with head and arms below waist level
    • Work on knees or lay down to repair tool
    • Required to use a respirator
    • Use basic hand tools
    • Standing on hard surfaces for long periods on metal or concrete floors
    • May be part of the Emergency Response Team
