Sr. Design Engineer - Innovation

Job Summary

Using the voice of the customer, develops new products in collaboration with our Marketing, Product Management, and Operations teams. Ensures that we maintain our new product pipeline for future growth..

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Team, Sales, Engineering, Quality, Planning, Purchasing and Operations to ensure we deliver a successful project, on time, at acceptable revenues, with zero quality defects
  • Maintain ownership of numerous new product / new process / new technology development activities and Engineering projects across all functional lines and operating sites
  • Manage projects tightly to detailed master program schedules and milestones. Coordinate schedule compliance for all deliverables. Manage impact of material and delivery schedules to the operational aspects of the business
  • Lead and Participate in Continuous Improvement events
  • Maintain and improve existing products
  • Train and mentor less senior engineers
  • Create and maintain policies, procedures, engineering standards, programs, and work instructions
  • Assist in Identifying & driving continuous improvement opportunities within the facilities and at our supplier's locations.
  • Serve as technical expert and lead technical discussions with customers on Rexnord Aerospace products to provide/improve customer satisfaction
  • Contribute to the breakthrough product development process

Job Requirements, Capabilities and Success Factors

  • 10+ years of Engineering Work Experience in the field of design of mechanical components (bearings and/or mechanical seals, preferred)
  • 5+ years experience in new product, new process and/or technology development required
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline, Master's degree preferred
  • Working knowledge of 3D Solid Modeling software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, CREO, and/or CATIA
  • Strong customer service orientation/ High level of interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of engineering part drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Background in metal manufacturing environment including metal cutting and grinding is required
  • Experience in root cause analysis and formal problem solving techniques
  • Experience working in a lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environment is desirable
  • Knowledge of Stage Gate Process
  • Capable of occasional travel to customers and other plants
  • General working knowledge of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools (including SPC, GR&R, DOE, FMEA, Control Plans, DMAIC, FAI, Cost of Quality)
