CPE Nurse Practitioner Per Diem

Schedule: Perdiem 10hr days 7a-530p

Performs pre- operative nursing assessment, pre-operative risk assessment, medical history and physical and patient education on patients undergoing scheduled surgical procedures. The Nurse Practitioner in CPE will work collaboratively with the team to assure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice.

Follows established hospital and departmental precautions and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment for patients and others to include as appropriate:



  • Demonstrates effective communication "hand off's" between providers, shifts departments, etc.
  • Demonstrates use of proper precautions including use of appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Performs and documents pre-operative history and physical, nursing assessment and medication reconciliation.
  • Performs and documents appropriate peri-operative patient education
  • Orders and interprets appropriate pre-operative lab and diagnostic tests (EKG, CXR)
  • Determines patient's ASA and airway classification
  • Performs pre-operative medical risk assessment
  • Collaborates with anesthesiologist and surgeon regarding concerns of patient risk for anesthesia and surgery
  • Communicates with Primary care provider and other medical specialties for continuation of patient's medical care
  • Refers patient to PCP or other medical specialties for further pre-operative risk assessment upon problem identification.
  • Communicates with nursing staff regarding patient concern directly or via the problem board
  • Nurse Practitioner works under the supervision of a collaborating attending physician who is board certified in their specialty and licensed by the State of Massachusetts

Qualifications

* Masters Degree required

* Current certification as Adult/Family Nurse Practitioner

* Must have current Massachusetts Registered Nurse Licensure/ Advanced Practice

* Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers required

* Must hold current MA controlled substance and DEA licensure

* Must maintain updated continuing education requirement for certification and licensure

* Previous NP experience preferred

* Previous Surgical Nursing experience preferred - minimum of 5 years

* Staff adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards

* Effective communication skills

* High level of interpersonal, problem solving skills

* Performs and documents preoperative patients risk assessment

* Collaborate with anesthesiologist and surgeon regarding concerns of patient risk for anesthesia and surgery
