Position Summary

UNM-Taos is seeking applicants for a full time Director of Student Affairs Sm/branch.

The Director of Student Affairs is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing student-related administrative services within the branch, including admissions, registration, financial aid, student records, and compliance with academic policies and regulations. The Director serves as the registrar, managing the institution's student academic records and ensuring the integrity of the academic credentials. The Director serves on the Chancellor's Cabinet and plays a vital role in strategic planning, budgeting, personnel management, program evaluation, and incident management to support the academic and operational success of the institution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the College Registrar, overseeing the maintenance and management of student academic records, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, institutional policies, and privacy laws.
  • Provide high-level leadership and support for student enrollment services, including admissions, registration, financial aid, student records management, student activities, counseling, and student basic needs and emergency resources.
  • Mentor and supervise personnel, including work allocation, professional development, promotion, performance evaluation, and problem resolution.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range goals, objectives, and strategic plans for the division, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Enforce academic policies and procedures related to the student code of conduct and academic standing, including probation, suspension, and promotions.
  • Manage grade and transcript processing; coordinate academic information for graduation clearance and special program certifications.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of student services and registrar operations, implementing changes as necessary to improve operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate effectively
    with other areas of the college to implement Guided Pathways and ensure a
    student-ready college.
  • Represent the organization at community, business, and institutional meetings, promoting existing and new programs and policies.
  • Serve on the college's incident management team. Responds to emergencies and crises that pertain to students and campus life; serves in an on-call capacity.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Strong ability to examine and re-engineer operations and procedures, develop and implement policy, and strategize for new and improved processes.
  • Expertise in registrar functions, including the development and maintenance of academic records and credential management.
  • Insight into student life issues and the ability to address a wide range of student concerns.
  • Deep understanding of state and federal higher education policy and college-level registrar, admissions, financial aid, and student affairs functions.
  • Skill in organizing resources, setting priorities, and fostering a cooperative work environment.
  • Familiarity with the procedures for developing and disseminating curriculum catalogs and student handbooks.
  • Knowledge of academic standards regarding student probation, suspension, and expulsion processes.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers and software applications related to student affairs and academic management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies.
  • Proven skills in employee development and performance management, with the ability to supervise, train, and organize staff.

Work Environment: This position is primarily office-based but may involve travel to represent the institution at various meetings and events. The Director of Student Affairs and College Registrar plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the institution's academic records while shaping a positive student experience and contributing to institutional success.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
