Responsibilities

  • Works under limited supervision of nursing and medical staff and with full proficiency to perform all duties of a PCT which include assisting patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and other ADLs.
  • Observes patients' progress to prepare and disseminate reports to Registered Nurse or other medical staff.
  • Obtains and records patients' vital signs and collects specimens for lab tests.
  • Provides basic patient transport and housekeeping duties.
  • Measures and records patients' intake and output and other measurements in accordance with unit routines, assist patients with range of motion, and draws blood.
  • Additionally, assists in providing treatments to patients, performs technical procedures such as feeding tube and catheter administration, suture/staple removal, splinting of extremities, and performs ECGs as ordered.
  • Coordinates daily activities for assigned unit to include general clerical and administrative support and participates in performance improvement activities to enhance and maintain personal and department qualifications and standards of performance.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Basic Life Support

  • Competent to perform in at least two general areas of practice (cross trained and cross competent to cover more than one hospital service, role, or function).

  • Completion of approved CNA, PCT or paramedic certification or may be senior nursing student with less than one semester to complete in nursing program.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy

  • Minimum of five years of experience in acute or long-term care preferred.
