UNC Asheville. The Humanities Program, currently a four-course sequence, includes material from literature, history, philosophy, classics, music, art, and the natural and social sciences. It provides the context for what students learn in the liberal arts and sciences. The Humanities Program draws faculty from most departments on campus. The program conducts regular faculty development workshops and retreats using funds provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The Arts and Ideas Program provides general education courses focusing on the critical, aesthetic, and historic background of the arts. Again, faculty are interdisciplinary and offer more than 30 different Arts and Ideas designated classes across the campus, each semester, with a few sections offered during the summer. Additionally, the Arts and Ideas Program produces an annual festival, Arts Fest, each year.
The two programs work closely together, especially in terms of faculty development initiatives.
The Center for Jewish Studies (
CJS) has presented some of world Jewry's leading scholars, theologians, filmmakers, musicians, writers, and theater companies to the campus and community. Occasionally, the
