CSS has an opening for someone with experience in developing microgravity science payloads to help deliver solutions to our government and commercial customers. We are seeking a skilled Senior Microgravity Payloads Project Manager to join our team. This role involves leadership of the programmatic development of microgravity science payloads for the International Space Station (ISS) and other microgravity platforms.

Position Overview

As a Senior Microgravity Payloads Project Manager, you will collaborate with payload scientists and engineers, customers, and external partners to oversee the programmatic design, build, launch, and operations of payloads. This position can be performed remotely with up to 20% travel required to launch and recovery sites, customer, and partner facilities. You may also join our existing team in the Space Coast, Florida region. Irregular hours will be necessary, particularly during launch and on-orbit operations.

Responsibilities:



  • Lead the programmatic aspects of design, development, launch, and operations of microgravity payloads.
  • Work closely with engineers, customers, and partners to ensure successful mission integration and operations.
  • Plan, develop, and manage integrated schedules, budgets, and resource utilization in support of assigned projects and related tasks.
  • Keep projects within scope, budget, risk, and schedule. Maintain appropriate documentation for each.
  • Provide support for on-orbit payload operations and crew training.
  • Plan, evaluate, and produce necessary information and cost estimates for assets, consumables, and other required materials related to project performance.
  • Provide regular project performance data reporting to clients and corporate management as directed and required.
  • Provide effective, regular communication to personnel, clients, and company officials to maintain and ensure project performance and compliance, client satisfaction, and corporate support and knowledge.
  • Perform analysis and reviews to provide approval of all costs including invoices, service agreements, and purchase orders.
  • Contribute to building a diverse team of engineers, scientists, and managers for future projects.
  • Perform other duties assigned.


Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to microgravity sciences payloads, or equivalent experience.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in project management or systems engineering of space payload processing, flight hardware mission integration, and operations for scientific experimentation in space. Relevant education/experience may be substituted for a portion of the experience.
  • Proficiency in basic laboratory principles and techniques.
  • Strong dependability and punctuality in both remote and on-site environments.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects accurately and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with the initiative to work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and customer interface skills.


Desired Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in a field relevant to microgravity sciences payloads.
  • Project management professional certification.
  • Experience in human spaceflight programs.
  • Experience with on-orbit payload operations.
  • Experience with NASA Systems Engineering framework and managing projects according to NASA NPR 7120-series standards.
