Job Title: Ski Patrol Training Lead

Appointment Type: Seasonal Part / Full Time

Overview:

This is a supervisory position that will manage the training of up to 30 employees. Additionally, the incumbent will have all of the roles and responsibilities of a Line Patroller, at a minimum, and will be responsible for a wide variety of mountain operations. The Patrol Training Officer reports directly to the Ski Patrol Senior Manager and the Ski Patrol Manager. This position promotes prevention and mitigation of emergencies through proper planning and training. Responds to emergencies involving medical and rescue concerns. Implements and evaluates medical training and skills for the resorts emergency medical technicians as well as performs clerical and record keeping activities. This position also requires strong interpersonal relationship skills as well as an expert skiing ability.

Key requirements:

  • The incumbent must be able to obtain an ATF explosive handlers permit
  • Have a current medical certification at the Utah, National EMT or OEC level
  • Current CPR certification
  • Expert skiing ability
  • 4 years ski patrol experience
  • 1 years of avalanche mitigation experience at a class "A" resort
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • An understanding of ski resort operations
  • Able to hike in steep, exposed, and technical terrain in arduous conditions with packs weighing between 40 to 60 pounds


Management Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate medical training programs and skills for ski patrollers and resort staff.
  • Respond to emergency medical calls to evaluate delivery of services and quality assurance.
  • Coordinate and work with the medical director to evaluate service delivery and programs.
  • Function as liaison between Ski Patrol / Clinic staff and ALS / Gold Cross responders.
  • Assist in coordinating emergency medical certifications with the State EMS Health Department.
  • Complete detailed reports and keep training records for personnel.
  • Conduct training sessions; write lesson plans for medical education.
  • Prepare monthly reports which detail training hours.
  • Review EMS reports for quality assurance.
  • Trains line patrollers in proper documentation of incidents and dispatch duties
  • Assist patrol manager in 1Risk electronic incident reporting and dispatch


Emergency Care and Rescue responsibilities, at both supervisory and functional levels:

  • To provide and able to train line patrollers in the emergency care to those in need of assistance.
  • To provide and be able to train line patrollers in patient transport from on mountain locations, in expert terrain, to locations in the base area via rescue sleds and snowmobiles.
  • To be proficient and able to train line patrollers in lift evacuations using specialized equipment
  • To be proficient in avalanche rescue
  • To be proficient and able to train line patrollers in cliff and high angle rescue
  • To be proficient and able to train Ski Patrollers in search and rescue including night operations
  • Ensures all patient information is collected and recorded in accordance with industry standards
  • Assists in inter-agency rescue efforts in fluid complex situations
  • Able to set up helicopter landing zones and serve as a landing zone coordinator


Mountain Maintenance:

  • To assist in avalanche mitigation work at the route leader or follower level at a Class "A" resort
  • To ensure proper signage and required rope lines are in place
  • Ensures that all medical and rescue equipment is in good working order and supervises the maintenance of said equipment
  • To enforce local and state ordinances as well as the skier responsibility code
  • To effectively evaluate on mountain conditions and hazards and take appropriate steps to mitigate such hazards
