JOB TITLE: Ski Patrol I, II, & III
DIVISION: Ski Patrol
REPORTS TO: Ski Patrol Senior Manager, Ski Patrol Manager, Avalanche
Mitigation Manager, Ski Patrol Training Officer, Ski Patrol Supervisor and Ski Patrol Leads
LOCATION: Solitude Mountain Resort
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time/ Part-Time/ Seasonal/ Hourly
POSITION:
The ski patrol I, II, & III positions are a non-supervisory role that will be responsible for a wide variety of mountain operations. The position involves 100% field work and requires a high level of fitness and expert skiing ability.
REQUIREMENTS FOR SKI PATROL LEVEL I:
- The ability to obtain an ATF explosives handlers permit
- A current CPR and medical certification at the EMT, OEC, or WFR level
- Expert skiing skills and equipment
- The ability to hike and ski in steep exposed terrain in arduous conditions with packs weighing between 30-50 pounds
- Strong communication and guest relations skills
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills
- The ability to work well with others
- Basic understanding of ski resort operations
- The willingness to follow resort policies and procedures as described in the Staff Handbook

- 3 seasons ski patrol experience at Solitude or mountain with similar characteristics
- Pro 1 or equivalent avalanche certification
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Emergency Care and Rescue
- To provide emergency care to those in need of assistance
- To provide transportation either by toboggan or snowmobile with a toboggan in various types of terrain and snow conditions
- To be familiar with snowmobile use
- To have the ability to participate in lift evacuation using specialized equipment
- To have the ability to participate in technical cliff rescue and high angle rescue
- To have the ability to participate in search and rescue, including night operations
- To have the ability to participate in Dispatch duties
- To be familiar with radio usage
- To be familiar with documenting incidents
- To assist guests as needed
- To participate in medical and rescue trainings
- To be willing and able to volunteer for Wasatch Backcountry Rescue
Avalanche Mitigation
- To have a basic understanding of avalanches and avalanche terrain
- To have the ability to participate in mitigating avalanche hazards
- To have the ability to participate in avalanche rescues
- To participate in avalanche related trainings
- To have the ability to lead avalanche mitigation routes
Mountain Maintenance
- To set up and maintain signs, markings, fencing, and sign line systems
- To assemble signs using basic tools
- To evaluate conditions and hazards on the mountain
- To identify fast or reckless skiers, and educate skiers violating the mountain policies
- To conduct sweep on the mountain after closing
- To have the ability to perform ski patrol duties in various types of weather conditions
- To be proficient and professional with radio usage and be familiar with the 10 code system
- To maintain rescue equipment and supplies
