Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Metrology Associate II services custom, complex and off-the-shelf laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Job responsibilities include assembly, installation, calibration, routine maintenance, investigation and diagnosis of failures, repair, requalification, and filing service reports. This position will also assist in writing and reviewing calibration procedures.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install instruments and perform installation and operational qualifications.
  • Investigate and diagnose failures with installed instruments and equipment.
  • Write and review Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Perform troubleshooting activities and repair instruments and equipment to service specifications.
  • Maintain program for preventative maintenance (PM) and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Complete and submit accurate and detailed service records. Track all service activities and ensure documentation is complete, timely, and accurate.
  • Perform all service activities in compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory bodies (OSHA, ISO, FDA).
  • Maintain and continuously develop personal knowledge and expertise related to the service of complex clinical laboratory equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

  • Ability to work normal schedule of Monday through Friday during normal business hours.

  • Ability to work seated for approximately 25% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 75% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% of working time, primarily between Madison, WI locations.
  • Ability to operate laboratory instruments and equipment for approximately 50% or a typical working day.
  • Occasional work around hazardous materials.
  • Occasional use of safety protective gear/equipment (e.g. safety glasses, lab coat, gloves, etc.) as required.
  • Repetitive movement of hands and fingers while working with computers or instruments.
  • Continuous eye/hand coordination, close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications



  • Associates degree in Technology, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field; or high school degree/general education diploma and 2 years of maintenance, repair, calibration of equipment or relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • 2+ years of related experience in an instrument services industry.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Understanding of electrical circuits and diagrams, including use of common electrical measurement tools such as multi-meters and oscilloscope.
  • Understanding of mechanical part and assembly drawings.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel.
  • Strong documentation skills and attention-to-detail necessary.
  • Experience performing or managing the performance of on-site calibrations and preventive maintenance activities of laboratory or support equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience in cGMP environment.
  • Demonstrated mechanical and troubleshooting aptitude.
  • Database management experience; preferably experience developing continuous improvements to database management procedures/processes.
  • Demonstrated validation experience.
