EHS Specialist/Manager

Location: Simpsonville, SC (Relocation assistance provided)

The EHS Specialist/Manager reports to the Site Plant Manager and has primary responsibility for management of the EHSS&S program/processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

This individual will be primarily responsible for ensuring that effective compliant programs are in place for the facilities, meeting company policies and goals, and implementing the corporate EHSS&S program. Individual will be heavily involved in program implementation and maintenance. It is expected that this individual will spend a significant portion of time walking the manufacturing areas of the facility and interacting with plant and supervisory personnel.

Additional duties include:

  • Comply with Federal, State, Local and Internal requirements.
  • Operate in a manner that minimizes safety and health risks and company liability.
  • Use EHSS&S tools (webpage, databases, online training and programs guidance).
  • Implement activities, programs, and training for existing and pending Safety and Health requirements.
  • Recognize and resolve at risk conditions that could potentially lead to significant events, and non-compliance situations.
  • Guide facility leadership in the area of EHS&S.
  • Support the completion of facility corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate and support regional and corporate compliance programs as needed.
  • Assist the Plant Manager with the 24/5 Wastewater Treatment protocols.
  • Has direct responsibility for meeting facility expense budget, particularly for safety expenditures - supplies, training, and other improvements.
  • Leads, consults, and supports capital projects to improve safety.

Safety Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain the corporate employee safety management system within the plant
  • Assess training requirements and needs, implement, conduct/coordinate and maintain safety training plan for the plant
  • Lead plantwide Safety Team. Advocate for safety related capital and expense dollars.
  • Facilitate or lead accident investigations on work-related injuries and near miss events, establish, and implement associated corrective and preventative actions.

Environmental Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with all applicable environmental permits, regulations, and programs. Arrange for required sampling, complete inspections, create and submit reports accurately and on time, and keep records organized and accessible for inspection.
  • Be audit ready for all State and Federal routine audits (EPA, DHEC, OSHA, Railway, Local POTW, etc)
  • Implement and customize H.B. Fuller's environmental programs to local facility needs.

Understand and Assist in Assessing Facility Exposures

  • Ability to recognize, assess, and advise on control of chemical and physical hazards (noise, heat, etc.) related to facility processes is necessary. A good understanding of the hazards of the chemicals the facility uses, process flow, as well as applicable TLVs and/or PELs is necessary. Working knowledge of exposure control methods and ability to advise facility personnel on appropriate hazard control is necessary.

Industrial Hygiene Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop & maintain site qualitative employee health risk assessment
  • Develop & maintain site approved chemical list and maintain site Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Conduct assessments of chemical and physical hazards exposures.

Process Safety Duties & Responsibilities

  • As it applies, develop processes and provide hands on support to conduct process hazard assessments, operability reviews, and engineering/administrative controls for the facility processes utilizing HAZOP and other applicable methodologies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science & Safety or relevant fields of study is preferred, OR Associate's degree or non-degreed will be considered with commensurate experience.
  • Minimum5 years working in an EHSS&S focused role in a chemical processing environment preferred.
  • Experience managing several of the following areas: OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DHS, RMP, Responsible Care, PSM, and other applicable regulations.
  • Experience managing projects with effective project management skills.
  • Facilitated In-house training on a variety of EHSS&S topics in accordance with EHSS&S management objectives.
  • Facilitated Accident and Incident Investigation and Analysis as per EHSS&S management directives and operational requirements.
  • An understanding of the application of systems to safety (VPP, OHSAS 18001, IIPP)
  • Awareness of U.S. based security regulations.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% supporting other locations as needed and the corporate compliance audit and assessment program.

Physical Environment:

  • Role is expected to spend a significant portion of their time outside on the property and on the plant, floor engaging with employees and working on safety improvements.
  • Frequent walking, standing and climbing stairs is required.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. unassisted, although infrequent.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $100,000 - $115,000.
