DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Center for Reimagining Leadership (CRL) amplifies the impact of cutting edge interdisciplinary research, and builds communities where persistently excluded scholars lead and thrive. CRL currently runs 3 pilot fellowship programs to support its goals:

  1. An early career faculty (ECF) program, which focuses on building community and providing training, and career advancement support.
  2. A climate justice scholars program (CJSP) that works to catalyze interdisciplinary climate change research that centers social justice.
  3. An undergraduate program (the Lamat program), which supports undergraduate students on their path to graduate school.

CRL also runs 2 cross-Center programs dedicated to developing an inclusive assessment model and supporting community-partnerships in research. CRL is directed by Prof. Enrico Ramirez-Ruiz, Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics, and is supported by an Advisory Board representing faculty and staff from a broad range of Departments and units across campus.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Associate Director, the Director of Programs will provide administrative support to the Center for Reimagining Leadership and in particular for Center-related work led by the Associate Director and Associate Director for Research. Administrative support includes managing budgets, recruiting fellows, event planning and support, completing financial and hiring forms, scheduling meetings, travel planning, supporting annual report writing, and managing grant competitions and disbursing funds as described in more detail below.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $85000.00 - $95000.00/annually @ 50% (FTE) = $42,500.00 - $47,500.00/annually.
Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

80% - Administrative Support

  • In support of the CRL Associate Director, provides the following administrative support for projects that are at the core of CRL's mission:
    Budget Management: Manages budgets for the CJSP, Community Engagement Program, and the CRL Board of Advisors, including disbursements to community partners and seed grants to faculty teams.
  • Fellow Recruitment: Supports the Associate Director in recruiting CJSP fellows, including drafting and circulating calls for applications, reviewing applications, and managing disbursement of stipends for fellows and CJSP Steering Committee members.
  • Event Planning: Manages, coordinates, and facilitates events as needed to support CJSP, Assessment Program, and cross-program CRL activities, including retreats, Board meetings, CJSP Steering Committee meetings, and other events such as lunch meetings and dinners as well as individual meetings with community members.
  • Travel Planning: Supports Center-related travel planning and coordination for CRL leadership, CRL guests, speakers, and other CRL-related travel.
  • Scheduling: Performs calendar management and scheduling for program activities, and CRL-related individual meetings.
  • Processing Center Payments/Hiring Requests/ Reimbursements: In coordination with the other Director of Programs, processes summer salary requests, course relief requests, GSR funding requests, fellowships, students stipends, participants incentives, reimbursement, and other payments that support the Center Leadership. Ensures payments are received in a timely manner.
  • CTE Credit Card Reconciliation Support: Processes Entertainment Reporting Addendum Forms (in coordination with the other Director of Programs) including guest list, receipt, and approval process) to support CTE reconciliation.
  • Annual Reports: Working with CRL Director, Associate Directors, and the other Director of Programs, prepares annual reports.

20% - Special Projects

  • Performs other duties and projects at the same level of complexity, difficulty, and responsibility as assigned to support the Associate Director in CRL administration, programming and events, as needed. This includes support for research projects that are at the core of the CRL's mission.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Experience working effectively with various levels of staff, faculty, and students.
  • Organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work and function effectively under time pressure of deadlines with frequent interruptions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience creating and supporting inclusive and welcoming spaces.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in confidential matters.
  • Ability to complete work within established time frames.
  • Ability to work independently on a project once given general direction.
  • Event planning experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
  • Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
  • The selected candidate will be required to work all scheduled hours on-site.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
