The Position

The Workforce and Professional Education Department at Ocean County College is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable instructor to teach courses in Legal Writing and facilitate Legal Workshops. The instructor will be responsible for developing and delivering curriculum designed to enhance students' legal writing skills and understanding of key legal concepts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in law and education, with a passion for helping students succeed in their legal studies and careers.

WPE instructors are responsible for teaching students in both classroom and online settings, ensuring that they gain the knowledge and skills that are required for entry-level employment in their chosen field. The instructor is responsible for delivering established curriculum to students in a professional and proficient manner. This position also assigns and grades assignments, inputs attendance records, and ensures an effective learning environment through classroom management.

Classification: Workforce & Professional Education Instructor

Instructional Duration: Semester Based

Rate: $575/CEU (Continuing Education Units)
*Pay per class is dependent on the number of assigned Continuing Education Units (1 CEU is equivalent to 10 hours of work)


What You Will Do

  1. Design and deliver engaging and comprehensive courses on Legal Writing, focusing on areas such as legal research, drafting legal documents, and persuasive writing.
  2. Facilitate legal workshops that cover various topics, including legal analysis, contract drafting, court procedures, and case briefing.
  3. Employ a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, group discussions, writing exercises, and case studies, to enhance students' understanding and application of legal writing principles.
  4. Provide constructive feedback on students' writing assignments, helping them to improve clarity, precision, and legal reasoning.
  5. Prepare for and instruct established and approved curriculum to students in a professional manner.
  6. Review and discuss syllabi requirements at the start of each term with students.
  7. Answer all student questions as they arise to ensure student understanding and completion of assignments.
  8. Maintain student records.
  9. Recognize need for and initiate student support plans and tutoring as needed.
  10. Maintain professionalism within the classroom and coach students on their professionalism.
  11. Related duties, initiatives and projects as assigned.

The Successful Candidate Must Have

  1. Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school is required.
  2. Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related career field.
  3. Ability to use common software programs (MS Word/Excel/Outlook/Power Point etc.)
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Great interpersonal skills.
  6. Have the desire and ability to help students succeed in the medical field.

Even Better If You Have

  1. One or more years instructional experience in an educational or work-related setting.
2. A Master's degree in Law, Legal Studies, or a related field is preferred.
