LEAD WORKER, GROUNDS Shift: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm - [June - August] 7:00 am - 3:30 pm $23.52 per hour The Grounds Lead Worker is responsible for the supervision and coordination of activities of the workers engaged in the daily operation of landscaping activities, and the performance of contracts in a professional manner including loading and unloading of equipment. INTRODUCTION The Grounds Lead Worker is responsible for the supervision and coordination of activities of the workers engaged in the daily operation of landscaping activities, and the performance of contracts in a professional manner including loading and unloading of equipment. RESPONSIBILITIES *1. Works with and supervises the crews of grounds workers at assigned work area(s). *2. Provides normal care of lawns, shrubbery, trees, walks, parking areas, fence lines, flower beds, etc. *3. Follows/helps create precise schedules prepared by the Grounds Maintenance Manager for cutting, fertilizing, liming, seeding, and application of herbicides, pruning, snow/ice detail, etc. *4. Observes and report any signs of abnormal development in lawns, shrubs, trees, etc. to the Grounds Maintenance Manager and/or Arborist. *5. Maintains records of attendance and work hours for each crew worker and processes time and attendance. *6. Performs duties in accordance with safety rules, regulations, procedures, and/or instructions. *7. Notifies the Grounds Maintenance Manager immediately of any workers' injury on the job. *8. Ensures daily maintenance/operation and storage of equipment and assigned vehicles, including proper handling and cleaning. *9. Assists workers with problems, appropriately referring and referring matters to supervisor or counselor. *10. Attends staff meetings as required. *11. Instructs/performs snow details. *12. Performs other duties as assigned. *Essential Functions SUPERVISION RECEIVED The Grounds Lead Worker is directly supervised by the Grounds Maintenance Manager. SUPERVISION EXERCISED The Grounds Lead Worker supervises all workers at assigned site(s). WORKING CONDITIONS Mainly work outside. Working conditions are subject to extreme temperatures and weather conditions. Work conditions may be inconvenienced by dust, dirt, fumes, or flying objects (grass). Employee May be subject to Mandatory overtime within a half's day notice to include but not limited to meeting the requirements of the Project Work Statement. Over time may need to be completed on weekends too, in order to meet the above requirements. PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS The incumbent must be able to stand/walk 95% of the work time and sit 5% in order to inspect grounds properly, check equipment, and complete paperwork and grounds tasks, such as pruning, spraying, and riding mowers. He/she must be able to lift/carry 60 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and handle, all requirements, necessary for loading and unloading materials and equipment, and for planting, cutting trees, and pruning. He/she must be alert to safety hazards and have a method of communicating, so those around can respond and understand; must be able to see and tell colors, as this is necessary to drive equipment, inspect groundwork and perform grounds tasks. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma, 1-year experience as a gardener, and 1-year experience as a supervising gardener; or high school diploma plus 6-year experience as a gardener plus 1-year experience as a supervising gardener.
