Position Summary |
Provides academic support to students, offers learning strategies, and designs academic plans that align with student strengths and course expectations. Instruction is provided in English and Spanish. |
Essential Duties & Responsibilities |
I. Student Assistance
- Deliver structured academic assistance to students
- Provide intensive, one-to-one academic coaching, and progress monitoring
- Maintain documentation of all appointments, assignments and student data
- Offer study-skills instruction to students
- Provide assistance in creative formats, including teleconferencing
- Identify emerging student needs and assist with designing, implementing and evaluating services provided through the ARC
- Assist students in using on and off campus resources
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote student success
- Assist Academic Advising with student appointments, events, and projects
II. General Duties
- Represent the ARC and Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) at various meetings and functions
- Assist the Office of Accessibility Services and ACE as appropriate
- Provide data as required by the grant
- Create a welcoming community and engage in university mission
- Participate in and promote a culture of continuing quality improvement
- Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements |
- Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Educational Psychology, Education, Special Education, or related field
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Two years of work experience either in a university learning assistance program or teaching/ advising at the secondary or post-secondary level
- Strong oral and written communication skills; and strong organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively within a team and yet take initiative individually
- Computer literate
- Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position
- Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the university

Preferred Requirements |
- Master's Degree in Counseling, Educational Psychology, Education, Special Education, or related field
- Experience with ESL, ELL, or bilingual education
- Understanding of learning disabilities
- Teaching experience in higher education

Hours/Shift/Work Schedule |
Traditional office hours, Monday - Friday, evening and weekend work as required, from September 2024 to September 2028. Position duties and responsibilities require adherence to a flexible schedule to accommodate students' schedules. This position is full-time, grant-funded. |
Physical Requirements of Position |
Work is performed in an office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This is sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. |
