Job Summary:

Join the University Housing Facilities team as an HVAC Mechanic! We are seeking energetic and skilled candidates to provide repair and maintenance of all mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and refrigeration systems.

Work with a team of professionals focused on excellent customer service with no sales component. Base hours are all daytime hours with flexible start time. This position may have a rotating weekends schedule or scheduled on-call with standby and call back compensation.

Responsibilities:
Installs, maintains, and repairs environmental control or refrigeration equipment to ensure proper operation of equipment within an assigned facility. May direct the work of other staff performing routine maintenance and repair functions.

  • 30% Monitors, tests, maintains, and repairs Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, related equipment, and controls according to established policies and procedures
  • 15% Receives, prioritizes, and responds to service requests according to established timelines and policies
  • 15% Identifies, prioritizes, troubleshoots, and escalates system problems, equipment malfunctions, and repair needs
  • 20% Performs scheduled preventative and routine maintenance and documents activity on equipment and systems to ensure optimal and safe operation
  • 20% Performs basic plumbing and general repair work


Tasks:

  • Assists and guides student workers
  • Communicates in English via radio and in person to emergency personnel
  • Performs HVAC work in a variety of University Housing buildings, including driving utility vehicles to efficiently transport staff, move supplies, and urgently respond to emergency situations
  • Performs duties in a highly diverse student and family housing community, including resident-occupied spaces, as well as in vacant and common areas
  • Provides on-call support for service and repair needs on nights and/or weekends
  • Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency

Education:

Preferred

Qualifications:

Required:
- A minimum of 3 years of commercial maintenance experience

Preferred:
- More than 3 years of maintenance experience or equivalent combination of training and experience
- Related experience in a commercial, industrial, hotel, large multi-family, hospital, or similar environment
- On-call experience
- Industrial, technical, or HVAC-related degrees or certifications


License/Certification:

Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards
Driver's license requirement only applies to positions located in University Apartments.

Preferred
EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification


Work Schedule:

Schedule will be determined with the selected finalist upon hire. Primary schedule is Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00am - 6:00pm, with an on-call or weekend rotation as required by the department.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

This is a full-time appointment. The starting hourly wage is $27.00 or higher based on qualifications and includes a competitive retirement and benefits package.
