Job Description Summary

The successful candidate will immediately assume a senior position in our synthesis laboratories. These laboratories have a long and distinguished history of bringing innovative technical solutions to the markets we serve.
The senior scientist will create novel functional additives for coating, personal care and oil-field applications

Job Description

  • Developing new routes for the synthesis of polymers and industrial additives for use in formulating Coatings, Personal Care and Oilfield products.
  • Guiding the efforts of process engineers in developing and implementing processes for the manufacture of new products developed in the laboratory.
  • Characterizing inorganic and organic compounds to determine composition, physical and chemical properties and structure/performance relationships utilizing spectroscopic, chromatographic, thermal, microscopic and other analytical techniques.
  • Directing, coordinating, and advising junior personnel in the synthesis and characterization techniques used in preparing and analyzing the physical properties and components of materials.
  • Maintaining comprehensive and accurate records of experimental details in corporate notebooks, write technical reports and papers to be published in magazines and conference proceedings.
  • Contributing to the intellectual property position of the company via invention and patent applications.
  • Collaborating with marketers and applications specialists to generate the data used for the commercial launch of new products.
  • Participating, through attendance and presentation of papers, in relevant national and international industry forums.
  • Applying root cause analysis techniques to resolve production issues.
  • Participating in and improving the safety culture of the company.

Additional Job Description

  • Ph.D. in organic chemistry or related scientific field.
  • Demonstrated capability to execute multi-step synthesis of organic compounds
  • Able to research complex organic synthesis problems; evaluate options and execute solutions.
  • Versatility in applying scientific methodology in the areas of synthesis, analytical chemistry and material science in order to solve problems.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills as indicated by professional presentations and published papers.
  • Collaboration in a multidisciplinary team environment using sound interpersonal skills to promote a dynamic ambitious environment.
  • Manage complex projects involving multiple tracks.
