JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania State University is seeking to hire a student for a Federal Work Study position. Must be a PSU undergraduate Student. Must have a work-study grant.

The student in this position will have numerous opportunities to produce high-quality professional portfolio pieces. The student will be responsible for producing social media and web content that helps tell the story of Penn State Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MatSE), its students, and its researchers. This position will write and repurpose news releases, social media posts, newsletter stories, etc., and be supervised by the MatSE Marketing Communications Specialist.

Job Duties:

*Create and repurpose stories for social media, websites, and/or digital mediums. This will include also working with graphic designers to package stories.

*Ability to conduct interviews, do research, and attend events as needed.

*Update website content.

*Assisting with department needs such as events, mailing campaigns, social

media, video projects, etc.

Requirements and Qualifications:

*Penn State student with an eligible Work Study award and the ability to

work 10-20 hours a week.

*Must be able to work semi-independently and willing to take initiative on

assigned projects.

*Basic knowledge of storytelling, news writing, and social media best

practices.

* Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills along with

attention to detail and proofreading skills.

*Must be comfortable using Microsoft Office products (such as Photoshop,

InDesign, etc.) to create graphics, edit photos, etc.

* Familiar with how to operate photo cameras and/or video cameras.

* Preferred knowledge of video editing programs (such as Word, Excel,

PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.).

* May require the ability to work occasionally after business hours and

weekends.

Preferred Skills:

*Creating social media campaigns and posts.

*Experience in Adobe Creative Suite programs (such as Photoshop, InDesign,

etc.)

Students who received a Federal Work Study award have the opportunity to obtain a job and perform related duties either on campus, or remotely, if possible and at the discretion of the employer. Students applying for Federal Work Study positions should clarify expectations with their potential employer regarding either on campus/in person or remote work arrangements. A Federal Work Study award does not guarantee a job position is available.
