Job Description

Shift: Day 4/10's 7am - 5:30pm

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Serves as a resource person and role model for staff and cardiologists.
2. Facilitates team development and growth in coordination with other teams by acting as the liaison between each department
3. Responsible for staff scheduling at Lurie, Clark/Deming and all outreach locations, including assigning daily sonographer tasks at Lurie.
4. Maintains daily echo schedules, daily staff assignments and approves patient add-ons. Participate in clinic huddles, aides with TEE set-up, coordinates sedated echoes and ensure all appropriate schedules are updated (cath, CV surgery, etc)
5. Operationalizing clinic changes that require cardiac sonographer resources.
6. Checks EPIC and Syngo daily to ensure all technical results are entered accurately and in timely manner to ensure maximum reimbursement.
7. Manages and edits echo template schedule as needed.
8. Participates in the interview process, selection of new employees, orientation and training of new hires.
9. Coordinates staff education and monthly meetings
10. Participates in tasks related to IAC accreditation, including overseeing QI tasks and meetings.
11. Works closely with HTM department to troubleshoot equipment issues, monitor and track all ultrasound probe maintenance (TEE, TTE), and facilitate use of equipment for periodic maintenance and upgrades.
12. Acts as back-up to Tele-Echo Cardiology Coordinator, some tasks include, processing all tele-echo studies, preparing tele-echo reports for physician interpretation and being proficient with lifeIMAGE.
13. Facilitates delivery of echo equipment to various outreach locations for clinic.
14. Participates in national conferences and IAC meetings.
15. Support research projects as needed
16. Coaches team members to demonstrate a positive attitude and a friendly environment.
17. Ensures quality control procedures are performed and image quality meets standards.
18. Develops and implements procedures related to cardiology procedures and processes in accordance with department standards, regulatory agencies and certifying organizations.
19. Provide support with research echoes; assist with coordination and scheduling of research echoes so appropriate staff is available.
20. Assures billing is timely and accurate.
21. Assures documentation is completed for QI echo staff meetings.
22. Performs job duties of senior cardiac sonographer as needed.
23. Performs echocardiographic studies within the complete spectrum of diagnoses seen in congenital and pediatric heart disease, as well as adult echocardiography, with minimal supervision. The sonographer must demonstrate the ability to continuously integrate the image and Doppler data to be able to evaluate unusual findings, particularly with respect to congenital heart disease, so that a complete diagnostic study can be obtained. This requires that the sonographer have an extensive understanding of congenital and unusual forms of non-congenital heart disease.
24. Performs advanced imaging including Strain and 3D.
25. Demonstrates the clinical judgment to recognize and triage an emergent situation appropriately, such as calling for immediate review before study completion.
26. Demonstrates competency with all aspects of the ultrasound equipment, with the ability to obtain optimal imaging and Doppler data and perform complete data analysis. The sonographer must be familiar with the use of all possible acoustic windows and be comfortable dealing with technically difficult studies whether due to lack of patient cooperation or difficult access.
27. Knowledgeable and experienced with ECMO procedure, to assist with bedside ECMO weens and catheter placement.
28. Performs the technical components of transesophageal, intracardiac echocardiography or other special procedures
29. Supervises and teaches other sonographers and pediatric cardiology fellows.
30. Supervises stat echocardiograms performed via telemedicine by remote site sonographers.
31. Provides written communication for use by divisional cardiologists only, with the understanding that this does not constitute an official report.
32. Participates in outreach clinic and on call duties.
33. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
34. Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization if required as part of the responsibilities of the role.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Graduate of an accredited ultrasound technology program. Bachelor's degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of echocardiography.
3. Basic Life Support Certification required.
4. ARDMS registered in pediatric echo required/CCI - with expectation to obtain ARDMS PE in the first year of employment
5. Strong communication/listening skills, bilingual (Spanish) helpful.
6. Strong leadership skill required to delegate tasks as needed.
7. Ability to make quick, accurate decisions daily.
8. Must work well under pressure and in stressful situations.
9. Demonstrates basic computer skills with Microsoft Office knowledge.
10. Ability to travel to outreach sites.
11. Provides 24-hour on-call coverage.
