Summary of Job Duties:The Student Development Specialist will oversee the initial advising of all preadmissions in undergraduate and graduate programs for the College of Business, Health, and Human Services (CBHHS) and will be responsible for other administrative duties in CBHHS. This position is governed by state & federal laws & institutional policy. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Master's degree in education, academic advising or related field OR a Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of two years of experience in a job related field may be substituted for the degree requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience in higher education setting and experience with complex database systems, specifically Boss, Banner, and DegreeWorks.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as student advocate to help ensure student success using holistic advising theory;
  • Develop, maintain, and appropriately handle multiple complex tasks including applicant and student database;
  • Manage the student advising forCBHHScurrent and prospective students with a particular focus on pre-admitted students until the transition to the appropriate academic program advisor;
  • Ability to advise student organizational groups withinCBHHSas appropriate;
  • Assist with development and maintenance of advising and retention programs;
  • Assist with special events, recruitment efforts, and retention functions;
  • Navigate and work in all student technology systems including Boss;DegreeWorks, etc.;
  • Track student scholarship, enrollment and progression data;
  • Manage all assigned projects;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of student advising and/or student services;
  • Knowledge of Internet and conventional office technology tools is required, including but not limited to e-mail, Internet search engines, and software applications such as Word, Excel, and Word Press;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work sensitively with diverse audiences including students, public, faculty, staff, and administrators;
  • Strong communication skills across a variety of media formats and helps to develop and maintain content for web page and social media venues;
  • Ability to adapt to and apply new technology;
  • Strong problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to self-initiate project tasks after accepting an assignment under general supervision;
  • Ability to travel in state. Reliable transportation is required;
  • Knowledge of confidentially sensitive information regarding student, college, and record information;
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule which may include nights and weekends;
  • Ability to use customer service initiatives with clients and campus community;
  • Ability to appropriately handle multiple complex tasks which have been concurrently assigned with accuracy, attention to detail, and meet supervisor expectations;
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and within established deadlines;
  • Ability to maintain ongoing communication with supervisor regardingjobassignments, deadlines, scheduled appointment and all other activities linked tojobperformance;
  • Interact professionally, as a role model, and collaborate within professional boundaries with faculty, staff, students, administration, and internal/ external agency representatives.
