Position Summary

The Department of Art is looking to fill a staff position as the Lab Manager for the Mattox Sculpture Center and Art Annex. This person will oversee and manage the day-to-day technical, educational, and research support activities of the Mattox Sculpture Center and the Art Annex in the Department of Art. The Lab Manager ensures the smooth and efficient functioning of the Mattox and Annex buildings and the safe use and maintenance of equipment and facilities. It is essential that the Lab Manager be committed to creating a sense of belonging in the facilities for our diverse community of constituents.

The Lab Manager will be the central point of liaison with other UNM units and external constituencies to resolve day-to-day matters concerning the Mattox and Annex buildings. The selected individual will also be responsible for monitoring revenues and expenses of the Mattox and Annex buildings and be cost effective in purchasing materials and supplies. The successful candidate will have the ability to create a safe and welcoming environment, exemplary interpersonal skills, both orally and in writing, strong organizational skills, and the ability to problem-solve.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a directly related field; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BFA/BA Art Studio
  • Highly-skilled with woodworking facilities and at least 1 of the following additional facilities: metal, mold-making/casting, ceramics, digital fabrication tools
  • Experience working with students and faculty
  • Experience training others in safety and basic use of equipment
  • Excellent communications skills, both orally and in writing
