Responsibilities

NV5 is seeking a full-time Project Historians for our Cary, NC office to assist with county-level historic architectural surveys and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities of the position(s) will include surveying and documenting historic buildings and structures in the field, writing architectural descriptions, conducting background research, and developing historical contexts. The Project Historian reports to the Cultural Resources Group Manager. The most frequent and essential work activities include:

    Deployments to conduct architectural surveys in urban and rural environments.
  • Conduct fieldwork and survey of historic built resources, including field assessments, background research, and photography.
  • Develop building descriptions and research and complete historical contexts.
  • Manage project performance and coordinate with a variety of colleagues, clients, agencies, and the public.
  • Maintain effective and successful communication with project team, co-workers, and clients.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in historic preservation, architectural history, or a closely related field required; Masters Degree in same related fields preferred
  • Meet Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications for Architectural Historian (36 Code of Federal Regulations, CFR Part 61)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and maintain high level of productivity
  • Knowledge of North Carolina history and built environment a plus
  • GIS skills a plus

  • Work will primarily be in the office setting with some opportunities to be exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Work will be primarily working with fingers by picking, pinching, typing and grasping often with repetitive motion.
  • Must have visual acuity for viewing a computer screen, the ability to talk, hear and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Some work will be in the field involving long term standing and frequent walking as well as include common hazards at project sites.
  • Must have the ability to see, smell, hear, talk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and twist, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, sit, stand, and walk.
  • Weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required.
  • Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.

NV5 offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, 401(k) and professional development/advancement opportunities. Salary range for this position(s) is $22.00 to $35.00/hour dependent on experience and qualifications. Home office is Cary, NC; locating in Charlotte, NC or Alpharetta, GA, or remote work, may be considered dependent on experience and qualifications.
