Job Summary

This position is primarily responsible for payroll accounting and tax compliance functions including; audit and reconciliations of the payroll general ledger accounts, timely remittance of payroll taxes, preparation of tax forms, and generation and submission of annual tax information forms.

This role may assist with nonresident alien taxation and unrelated business income tax preparations.

The position requires independent thinking, analyze and combine large volumes of data from a variety of sources, and is expected to stay current on federal, state, and University developments and complex regulations with the ability to timely evaluate and/or change existing computer programs and develop new programs that address changing regulatory requirements and the evolutionary needs of the University.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$50,000 to $62,000/annual commensurate with experience


Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree with a major in accountancy (or equivalent course work) Transcript required.
2. A total of four (4) years (48 months) of full time (or part-time equivalent) progressively responsible experience in professional level accounting work consistent with the next lower level of this series.

**An advanced degree in accountancy or registration as a Certified Public Accountant may be substituted for one year of professional experience.


Preferred Qualifications

1. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to interact with a variety of personalities at all levels, exercising tact, confidentiality, sound judgment, diplomacy, and flexibility to promote positive working relationships and job effectiveness.
2. Substantially developed interpersonal and teamwork skills to successfully work with diverse groups in an academic environment.
3. An intermediate level of computer experience and knowledge of spreadsheets and databases. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
4. Proficient knowledge of state and federal tax laws and regulations, as they relate to Payroll is required.
5. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage multiple competing projects in an organized, efficient manner by prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
6. Ability to act independently and exercise sound judgment with sensitivity to identify matters that include higher-level management consultation
7. Highly proficient mathematical, analytical skills, and problem-solving skills are required.
8. Knowledge of payroll information systems, business application systems and personal computer skills is required. Experience in PeopleSoft is preferred.


Work Hours

Core hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
