Organizational Unit Overview
The Division of Student Affairs consists of over 30 departments, each of which is responsible for providing a variety of student support, service, and educational programs which are accessible to the university community. With over 300 full-time employees and over 1200 student workers, the Division supports Pirate success through environments that enhance student development, engagement, belonging, well-being, and career readiness.

ECU Career Services supports and empowers students in their career development to succeed as professionals in a global community. Career Services provides students with career development tools that assist them to become professionals. The department develops academic and co-curricular programs and services to enhance career readiness, leadership, and engagement.
Job Duties
The Assistant Director will be responsible for various aspects of the career development process and programming for students in majors within the College of Engineering and Technology. The undergraduate enrollment for the College is approximately 2200 students.
Advise students on internship, co-op and post-graduation employment opportunities, strategies for career success and will oversee co-op promotion efforts for Career Services. (40%)
Create, schedule, conduct, and evaluate career programming on a variety of topics to include but not limited to resume writing, interview techniques, social media and the job search process. (20%)

Maintain and enhance relationships with employers by increasing their visibility on campus through employer presentations and coordinate such relationships with the Career Services Employer Relations team. (20%)
Work directly with faculty, administration, and student professional organizations to coordinate career-related activities and produce recruitment events. The Assistant Director will pursue faculty partners within the college to intentionally integrate career development activities within the classroom and will represent the office on campus committees and working groups. (10%)
Support and promote career programs and events offered by Career Services, including career fairs, on-campus interviewing, employer information programs, and department supported activities. (5%)
Other duties as may be assigned by the Director, Associate Director, or designee. (5%)
Minimum Education/Experience

  • A master's degree and one year of career services or career advising experience in a higher education setting
  • Knowledge of employer recruitment strategies, job market trends, occupational, career and employment information sources.
  • Knowledge of career assessments and development of career assessment initiatives.
  • All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and conferred by the time of hire.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Four years of direct experience within a college or university career center providing career services to undergraduate or graduate students.
  • Ability to interact with all students, staff, and faculty populations.
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing effective working relationships with staff of all levels, faculty, academic personnel, employers, and alumni.
  • Effective writing, presentation and organizational skills
