Organizational Unit Overview
Information Technology and Computing Services ( ITCS) is the central agency that supports enterprise-wide computing at East Carolina University. ITCS, through innovative information technology initiatives and service, provides opportunities for the ECU community to excel in teaching, research, and service using state-of-the-market technology and collaborative environments. ITCS is first and foremost committed to providing excellent information technology support for faculty, staff, and students. ITCS partners with campus departments, other universities, and industry to make strategic investments in information technology infrastructure that will help maintain a competitive advantage in administrative applications, faculty research, and outreach to the state and nation. We will achieve this through increasing the core functions and deploying appropriate technology throughout the university.

Network Engineering and Support is one of the many service areas provided within ITCS Network Services. The primary purpose of Network Engineering and Support team is the installation, deployment, maintenance, and automation of various network services, including enterprise-level network systems or services that are part of, affect or influence the enterprise network infrastructure. This team works with the Network Architect in developing the overall network design and will engage them for consultation services on major network issues and design changes that significantly impact or influence network performance.
Job Duties
* Analyze network behavior and provide resolutions for highly complex problems
* Diagnose and resolve upper-level network protocol problems
* Investigate vulnerabilities and implement appropriate patches or remediations
* Serve as subject matter expert, providing insights and solutions to unique and innovative initiatives
* Forecast trends in utilization and forecast potential growth
* Assist various ITCS teams and others with resolving general network associated problems
* Install, configure and maintain LAN, WLAN, and WAN architectures and technologies
* Provide technical support and training for employees or customers
* Maintains high availability of enterprise wired and wireless networks while minimizing downtime
* Provides technical support on network related issues
* Develop, propose, and implement solutions to increase system performance and effectiveness
* Design and develop LAN, WLAN, and WAN architectures
* Forecast future needs and develop upcoming growth plans
* Develop long-range projections based on determinations of hardware capacity and software changes
* Analyze organizational requirements, selecting appropriate hardware and software
* Create and update network diagrams and documentation
* Create and maintain network diagrams, documentations, and standard operating procedures
* Prepare network and operations documentations for use within ITCS and campus users
* Investigates and maintains in depth technical knowledge of current and future products
* Establish and maintain relationships with vendors for road maps and future products
* Seek out and participate in professional development activities
* May function as team project lead, facilitating and overseeing large, highly complex projects
* Responsible for consulting with clients and technicians for pricing and network requirements
* Coordinates with various teams on highly detailed plans and implementation
* Provides technical guidance, solutions, and recommendations for university projects
* Assist management with developing project budgets
* Utilize project management software and methodologies to manage projects.
* Research, evaluate and implement new technologies
* Identify and develop enterprise guidelines for network-based products and services
* Develop solutions that offer efficiencies and enhance overall enterprise network infrastructure
* Lead the DR/BC planning, implementation, documentation, and testing of designated network engineering systems
* Develops goals and actions in the implementation of DR/BC processes
* Reviews the DR/BC processes with supervisor on a quarterly basis

This position requires you to live within a reasonable commuting distance of East Carolina University

The standard work schedule for this position will need to be adjusted to meet the position requirements, which include and are not limited to evening and weekend hours to perform scheduled and unscheduled workload requirements to maintain University operations.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Experience with the following preferred:
* IP routing, switching, wireless technologies, VLANs, firewalls and VPNs
* Hands-on network engineering experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining wired and wireless networks
* Proficiency with IT construction standards, fiber optics and Ethernet cabling
* Experience in network management and monitoring solutions (Cisco DNA, Cisco Prime)
* Knowledge and experience working with Datacenter Technologies
* Strong understanding and experience with interconnection and troubleshooting techniques for LAN hardware, including routers, controllers, switches, access points, RF design, and protocol analysis.
* CCNA and/or CCNP certifications completed or renewed within the last 5 years
* Management of highly complex short and long-term projects
* Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment
