Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Comparative Medicine is a basic science department in the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Our team supports excellent science through a comprehensive program of humane and ethical animal care and use. Department of Comparative Medicine cares for a variety of species in several facilities across all East Carolina University campuses. We provide barrier, containment, and quarantine housing, as well as surgical and technical support. The animal care and use program at East Carolina University is USDA Registered (#55-R-0010), PHS assured (D16-00294), and fully accredited by AAALAC, International.
Job Duties
The Department of Comparative Medicine in the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University is searching for a collegial, team-oriented laboratory animal veterinarian to join our faculty supporting a fully AAALAC-accredited, campus-wide animal care and use program. The duties of the selected candidate will include the following:

  • Participating in the provision of excellent veterinary and preventive medical care
  • Sharing emergency and holiday on-call rotations
  • Advising and collaborating with investigators in the development and implementation of research projects
  • Participating in academic course instruction and animal care and research staff training
  • Serving on and supporting IACUC activities
  • Participating in ensuring compliance with USDA, OLAW, AAALAC, International
  • Any other duties as assigned by the department chair.

Minimum Education/Experience
The successful candidate must have a DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary college or its equivalent as defined by the AVMA Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates, with at least 2 years of training or experience in laboratory animal medicine or related practice, and the ability to be licensed in North Carolina. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
