The Department of Interior Design and Merchandising offers undergraduate degree options in Interior Design as well as Fashion Merchandising and Consumer Studies. The Interior Design option is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (
CIDA) and the department is positioning itself to also receive accreditation from the Textile and Apparel Programs Accreditation Commission (
TAPAC). The unit boasts a talented and caring group of faculty, an active and committed advisory board, and passionate alumni and friends that all contribute to the successful development of well-prepared learners, important scholarship, and impactful service.

Job Duties |
The Department of Interior Design and Merchandising (

ECU) (
https://www.ecu.edu) invites applications for a non-tenure track position with the title of Teaching Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor. This is a fixed-term nine-month appointment, that will begin August 2025, with the possibility of starting in January 2025. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic, open-minded, and collaborative community of educators-scholars. Yearly and multi-year appointments to be renewed contingent on performance and available funds. As a full member of the faculty body, the teaching faculty receives all the department's benefits, including professional development and relocation assistance.
They must possess the combination of education and experiences to:
- Teach undergraduate residential and commercial courses.
- Build relationships with the community, employ technology, and utilize strategies for connecting with industry.
- Inspire and promote rigor, student success, and social mobility.
- Teach a 4/4 course load in studio and lecture formats at varying levels in at least three of the following -
- 2-D and 3-D visualization and design
- Drafting and presentation software consisting of SketchUp, AutoCAD, or Revit
- Graphic presentations
- Design for wellness
- Interior construction and detailing
- Building systems and codes
- Professional practice
- Virtual reality and artificial intelligence

Minimum Education/Experience |
Four plus years of practicing experience, over 18 hours of completed relevant master-level courses and demonstrated potential for effective teaching. |

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
- Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in interior design, interior architecture, or related degrees, such as a Doctoral, Master of Architecture, or Science (MS) in Interior.
- Design Certifications or Licenses:
o National Council for Interior Design Qualification (Highly Preferred)
o Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification
o National Kitchen and Bath Association
o US Green Building Council-
LEED AP
o International
WELL Building Institute
o Others as appropriate to the field
- Industry experience
- Higher Education Teaching experience
