East Carolina University, in Greenville, North Carolina, is about 1.5 hours from the state capital of Raleigh, four hours to Charlotte, and 1.5 hours from Atlantic Ocean beaches.

The School of Communication (https://communication.ecu.edu/) is housed in the College of Fine Arts and Communication. We enroll nearly 800 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. We offer a Bachelor of Science in Communication, and students can concentrate their studies in Interpersonal-Organizational, Journalism, Media Studies or Public Relations. We offer a Master of Arts and, for undergraduates, an Accelerated Master of Arts in Communication, with a concentration in Strategic Communication. We house a Research Center with eye-tracker software, BioPac and VR equipment, and a Center for Communication Excellence. |
Job Duties |
The School of Communication invites applications for an Instructor position in Communication that serves the core curriculum with a focus in courses that support concentrations in Interpersonal/Organization Communication and Media Studies. This is a nine-month, full-time faculty position available Spring 2025. The successful candidate will maintain a 4:4 teaching load and service to the unit and university.
Primary responsibilities include: (1) teaching foundations courses in the School of Communication including but not limited to Fundamentals of Speech Communication and Public Speaking; (2) syllabi development and collaborating with faculty on curriculum development; (3) engaging in service at the unit and university levels and (4) supporting student success through ongoing teaching activities and applied experiences. This position is contingent upon available funding. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
A Master's degree in Communication is required, and the degree must be conferred and received from an appropriately accredited institution. Candidates must have demonstrated success or strong potential of success for teaching expertise at the university level in introductory communication courses including public speaking and principles of speech communication. Teaching experience is preferred. |

The School desires candidates with knowledge of trends in the communication discipline to prepare students for a competitive job market. Also preferred is teaching experience at the university level along with pedagogical expertise in interpersonal and mediated communication. |
