The Department of Interior Design and Merchandising offers undergraduate degree options in Interior Design as well as Fashion Merchandising and Consumer Studies. The Interior Design option is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (
CIDA) and the department is positioning itself to also receive accreditation from the Textile and Apparel Programs Accreditation Commission (
TAPAC). The unit boasts a talented and caring group of faculty, an active and committed advisory board, and passionate alumni and friends that all contribute to the successful development of well-prepared learners, important scholarship, and impactful service.

Job Duties |
The Department of Interior Design and Merchandising (
https://hhp.ecu.edu/idmr/) in the College of Health and Human Performance (
https://hhp.ecu.edu/) at East Carolina University (
ECU) (
https://www.ecu.edu) invites applications for a nine-month, Tenure Track position with the title of Assistant Professor. This nine-month, Tenure Track appointment will begin August 2025. The successful candidates will join an enthusiastic, open-minded, and collaborative community of educators-scholars. Yearly and multi-year appointments to be renewed contingent on performance and available funds. As a full member of the faculty body, the teaching faculty receives all the department's benefits, including start-up, professional development and relocation assistance.
They must possess the combination of education and experiences to:
- Teach a 2/3 course load in varying levels, content, and modalities.
- Conduct activities in scholarship consistent with the unit's expectations for tenure and promotion, including securing external funding (grants/contracts) in support of the candidate's scholarship program.
- Serve the university, community, and profession in meaningful ways.

Minimum Education/Experience |
- Ph.D. in Fashion Merchandising, Consumer Behavior, or related concentrations.
- Candidates with the PhD conferred at the time of initial appointment will hold the probationary rank of Assistant Professor. ABD candidates will also be initially appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to their first reappointment.
