Organizational Unit Overview |
It is the mission of the Department of Pediatrics, East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, to provide exemplary medical education/training of physicians in pediatric medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, it is the mission of the department to provide model comprehensive primary and consultative subspecialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region. |
Job Duties |
The Department of Pediatrics seeks a Nurse Specialist to provide direct patient care and case management for the Pediatric Endocrinology. This position will serve as an extension of the physicians, but report to the Nurse Administrator of Clinical Operations. The position will interact with residents, medical students, nursing students, and other learners on a daily basis to teach procedures and concepts that relate to nursing practice. The position will provide treatment and care to endocrinology/diabetic pediatric population by providing comprehensive nursing care through independent nursing assessment and evaluation of patient conditions. This employee will serve as a primary resource for other clinical staff in the specialty area, providing expert consultation and/or in-service training. The position will prioritize clinical situations, ensure orders are written and carried out in an expeditious manner, and facilitate communication between the specialty and ancillary departments and staff. The employee will possess and demonstrate leadership qualities and be self-directed with the ability to utilize critical thinking skills, communicate effectively, and perform many tasks simultaneously. In addition, the employee will make appropriate referrals as needed, maintain accurate patient records and follow agency research guidelines for documentation of patients on studies and protocols, and serve as an educator for the patient population and other family members regarding disease and disease management. The individual in this position will have knowledge of Endocrinology and the ability to work with a positive approach in a team environment and possess a high degree of sensitivity to the special needs of the population of pediatric patients. Currently, hours of clinic operation are from 8:00 am-5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with a rotating scheduled late day to cover patient care.

ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as its teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for
ECU Health.
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the

Minimum Education/Experience |
Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing experience, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
