Staffing Specialist

General Summary of Position
Develops and maintains staffing schedules for nursing services department and maintains related records. Assists in the projection of staffing needs relative to vacancies and hospital census and keeps Human Resources aware of recruiting vacancies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyzes staffing projection reports and makes recommendations for short-term and long-term staffing needs. Apprise management of continuing recruiting needs for regular and temporary staff. Recommends recruitment needs and recruitment strategies.
  • Assists managers in providing appropriate staffing levels by assigning float pool personnel to units with notable vacancies. Coordinates float pool schedules.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources for hiring temporary supplemental staffing. Coordinates orientation for temporary nursing personnel.
  • Collaborates with Manager to ensure that there are adequate personnel for all shifts through the development, preparation, and maintenance of staffing schedules that meet hospital needs as apply to variable census conditions.
  • Collaborates with managers on vacancy and vacation projections.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Employs staffing options to cover last-minute sick or absent calls by using the least expensive options first.
  • Maintains list of current nursing personnel.
  • Maintains systems for recording staffing data relative to past, current, and future projection reports.
  • Maintains the following reports and communicates information to leadership: Position Control Report, Negative Time Report and follow-up on related disciplinary action; Weekend absences; Long term sick associates with expected date of return; Shift-by-Shift report on actual staffing; Current Nursing Personnel.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Refers to established unit staffing patterns to ensure minimum staffing requirements for each nursing classification and work status for each unit based on 24hour coverage. Adjusts staffing to meet needs and to provide adequate coverage of unit.
  • Schedules and posts calendars containing information important to nursing personnel.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Associate's degree in Business required or
    • related field, required or
    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent plus an equivalent combination of education required and
    • related experience. required

    Experience

    • 1-2 years 2 years related experience required


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Basic math skills.
    • Verbal and written communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.

    This position has a hiring range of $20.17 - $33.21
