YOUR IMPACT

CHA's bridge professionals incorporate collaborative and diverse thinking with practical and cost-effective designs that responsibly improve mobility and safety. We have inspected, designed, managed and overseen the construction of a wide array of grade separated crossings, retaining systems, and conveyance structures throughout the United States. As the average age of our nation's bridges nears 50 years, successful bridge projects must balance complex analytics, engineering innovation and context sensitivity with economic prudency and long-term feasibility.

This position will participate in various bridge inspections across New York State DOT Region 6 (Allegany, Steuben, Yates, Schuyler, and Chemung Counties) and assist with preparation of report materials for the NYSDOT.

Responsibilities:



  • Retrieve and return BIN folders from NYSDOT - The Assistant Team Leader Trainee will assist the Project Coordinator with retrieval/return of BIN folders from the regional office in Hornell, NY.
  • Assemble inspection materials - This individual will assist the Project Coordinator with preparation and assembly of inspection materials for inclusion in the BIN folder prior to commencement of field inspection.
  • Participate in bridge inspections -This individual will participate in hundreds of visual and tactile bridge inspections for the duration of this position. During the inspections, he/she will take and record a variety of measurements, which may require work in water and at heights.
  • Maintain the bridge inspection equipment - This individual will assist with handling the equipment and supplies necessary to complete the bridge inspections.
  • Assist with compilation of reports - The Assistant Team Leader Trainee will assist the Project Coordinator with tracking the progress and findings during the inspections, preparation of monthly progress reports, flagged bridge field reports, and other miscellaneous reports.
  • Study to obtain NICET Certification - The Assistant Team Leader Trainee will spend a portion of his/her time reviewing study materials in order to obtain the NICET Level II Certification
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates degree in civil engineering technology or construction technology
  • No prior experience is required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software required
  • Familiarity with CAD software is a plus
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit various audience
  • Strong work ethic and desire to work in a collaborative team environment with the willingness to assist senior staff
  • Must be able to work at heights, on ladders, scaffolding and aerial lift or under-bridge inspection equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to climb, work in confined spaces and under adverse weather conditions as required.
