Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Health Services and Information Management is part of the College of Allied Health Sciences which houses eight departments with programs at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. Attached to the College is the medical library which provides a librarian dedicated to supporting allied health faculty and students. All classrooms are technology-enhanced (e.g.
SMART devices, video capture).
The College of Allied Health Sciences has a strong working relationship with the
ECU Brody School of Medicine, the College of Nursing, the School of Dental Medicine, and the East Carolina Heart Institute offering many opportunities for collaboration in teaching and research. East Carolina University is also an integral part of the
ECU Health Medical Center, the regional medical center that serves 29 counties.
ECU Health Medical Center is a 900+ bed, level-1 trauma center which offers a myriad collaborative opportunities.
East Carolina University, with an enrollment of 29,000, is located in Greenville, North Carolina (pop. 88,000) in Pitt County (pop. 170,000). On the Atlantic coastal plains, the area has mild winters and is 90 miles from the beautiful Crystal Coast and the capital city of Raleigh. It is within driving distance to Charlotte, Washington DC, Myrtle Beach, and the Smokey Mountains. |
Job Duties |
The Health Services Management (
HSM) Program Director is responsible for reviewing the curriculum, assessing outcomes of the program, obtaining and maintaining the program's Certification through the Association of University Program in Health Administration (
AUPHA), recruiting and retaining students, and other related duties as appropriate. The Program Director reports to the Chair of the Department of Health Services and Information Management.
The
HSM Program Director will:
1. Prepare and present short- and long-term strategic plans (e.g., curricular and budgetary) to the Chair and, when necessary, faculty and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment with relevant institutional missions and professional objectives.
2. Continually assess the relevance, rigor, and quality of the
HSM curriculum in concert with program faculty, staff, Advisory Board, and other relevant stakeholders, incorporating results into program planning and objectives.
3. Oversee and assess the implementation of program planning and strategic objectives.
4. Initiate and conduct activities and compile reports related to the Certification of the program through the Association of University Program in Health Administration (
AUPHA).
5. Maintain information and produce reports related to program and student outcomes for use in, for instance, annual reporting, departmental meetings, and academic difficulty determinations.
6. Represent the program to internal and external constituencies.
7. Organize and direct, in concert with other members of the faculty and program advising, student recruitment, retention, evaluation, selection, advisement, and professional development.
