Job Summary

The College of Law Library is currently seeking Student to join their Access & Outreach Services team. Duties to include:

  • Assist in opening and closing of the library. Student will be asked to work schedules based on operating hours of FIU Law Library available at https://law.fiu.edu/library/about/hours/. FIU has extended operating hours on nights and weekends, and hours change during reading & exam periods.
  • Shelve library materials. Shift books. Perform shelf-reading. Search missing books. Assists ILL, ICL and Document Delivery.
  • Check library materials in and out using the Integrated Library System (ALMA), answer directional questions, refer reference questions to reference librarians, monitor patrons to enforce library policies, refer technology problems to the Law School IT dept.
  • Check in library material arrivals and deliveries, including creating call number labels, stamping receiving dates, and unpacking shipments.
  • Data entry to maintain accurate library cataloging information.
  • Make photocopies. Replace cartridge and fill paper in library printers and lexis printers. Contact appropriate departments for problems such as FIU Business Center for copy machines problems, monitor and count library patrons in the library, answer Circulation related incoming telephone calls.
  • Provide quality patron service and assistance to the greater FIU community, with special attention to the services provided to College of Law students, faculty, and staff.
  • Other assigned tasks related to students or faculty services, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires prior completion of FIU Service Excellence training or completion within first 30 days.
  • Excellent time management and customer service skills.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and WordPress.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
Work Schedule

  • Hours will vary.
  • May work up to 20 hours per week.
