About the Department/School/Area

The Department of Special Education prepares special education leaders who ensure individuals with disabilities and their families are provided equal access to services and education. The Department also houses two renowned research centers, The Burkhart Center for Autism Education & Research, and The Virginia Murray Sowell Center for Research and Education in Sensory Disabilities

Major/Essential Functions

Teaches face-to-face/online and/or undergraduate or graduate courses in the Department of Special Education of the College of Education. Job assignment is dependent on the needs of the department.

Faculty Qualifications


  • Doctoral Degree in Special Education
  • Minimum of three years experience as a practicing Special Education professional in a K-12 school district or related education agency setting
