Job Description

Summary

Oversees, coordinates, and directs modality specific activities in medical imaging. Develops and implements programs in these specific areas that meet the needs of families and physicians that seek care from Lurie Children's Medical Imaging. Promotes a leadership style and philosophy that models and promotes the vision of Lurie Children's. Actively supports all departmental and hospital Quality Improvement and Customer Service goals by modeling appropriate behaviors and providing a work environment conducive to the goals. manages day-to-day operational activities of MRI. Serves as a preceptor, mentor and resource to staff ensuring that all organizational and departmental policies and procedures are followed. Serves as MR Safety Officer once credentialed.

Area Specific Job Accountabilities:

  • Works with Executive Director and Associate Director, Medical Imaging, to develop and maintain volume-based staffing plans by monitoring staff and patient schedules.

  • Develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive orientation plans, competency standards, and ongoing professional development training for medical imaging technologists ensuring that all team members are fully equipped to meet industry standards and deliver high-quality care.

  • Oversees and manages all customer service and quality management initiatives relative to medical imaging.

  • Collaborates with Executive Director and Associate Director to plan, prepare and monitor operational budget in medical imaging.

  • Proactively researches, evaluates, and advises on emerging and existing technologies, providing strategic recommendations to enhance clinical capabilities, improve operational efficiency, and ensure modality remains at the forefront of industry advancements.

  • Develops business plans for equipment replacement and collaborates with key staff from Health Technology Management, Facilities, and Information Management to ensure seamless integration, optimal functionality, and alignment with departmental and organizational goals.

  • Works with Executive Director and Associate Director to manage variance to monthly operational budgets for on- and off-site locations and may assist in preparing annual budgets.

  • Oversees the collection, analysis, and reporting of key modality metrics, including volume, patient access, operational efficiencies, patient outcomes, and financial performance, to drive data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Identifies modality-specific areas for growth, process improvement, and cost containment.

  • Oversees ACR reaccreditation process and assures on-going compliance.

  • Provides direct supervision to frontline staff in modality(ies).

  • Attends Hospital meetings as required and participates on committees.

  • Oversees and maintains electronic time and attendance initiatives for medical imaging.

  • Provides prompt and effective resolution to all clinical and/or patient relations concerns ensuring timely communication, through problem-solving, and implementation of corrective actions to maintain high standards of patient care and departmental performance.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization if required as part of the responsibilities of the role.

  • The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.

  • Supports and integrates the four pillars of the organization-Clinical Care, Advocacy, Research, and Education-into all departmental initiatives and practices, ensuring that each area is actively promoted and aligned with overall organizational goals.

  • Other job functions as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Baccalaureate degree preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience in healthcare leadership, or progressive managerial responsibility, is required.

  • Certification/Licensure/Registration: Current ARRT, NMTCB, or SDMS certification and IEMA license (as applicable) required. ARRT Advanced certification required for positions in CT/IR and MR.

  • Basic Life Support Certification through American Heart Association required: Valid CPR required

  • Must possess excellent communication skills.

  • Must be able to make quick, accurate decisions on a daily basis.

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be proficient in working with a diverse group of customers and employees.

  • Strong analytical abilities and excellent organizational skills are required.

Education

Bachelor's Degree (BLS) - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association
