Job Description Summary

As the Manager of the Blood Donor Center, you will manage the volunteer blood donor center operations in the Department of Pathology. Working with the Medical Director and under the direct supervision of the Director-Clinical Laboratory Operations, the Manager will plan, organize, and manage all daily operations of the center including supervision of staff and processes to ensure efficient operations and regulatory compliance (e.g., FDA, AABB).

The Manager will oversee all donor collection processes and procedures including phlebotomy and apheresis from volunteer donors. Manages marketing and recruitment processes and works collaboratively with the transfusion service to ensure adequate blood product inventory for patient care. Knowledge of FDA requirements for volunteer blood regulations and recent blood donor operations experience in a hospital- based blood donor center or commercial blood donor center is critical for success in this position.

This position is primarily on-site in Memphis, TN. The Manager will work Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. or as required to support operations.

  • Oversee day to day operations of a core departmental function or service through a team by planning resources (financial, operational, and human resources).
  • Oversee operational processes, negotiation of contracts & vendor management, and coordination with other departments.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Lead the design and implementation of process improvement projects with department wide impact on efficiency, cost-effectiveness and quality of operational processes.
  • Communicate with senior leaders in the department & internal stakeholders to create alignment and resolve any conflicts or escalate as needed.
  • Develop and oversee implementation of policies and procedures (ensuring documentation, accuracy, adoption) in alignment with strategic goals.
  • Manage budget & resource planning for own area/ department.
  • Manage a team in terms of goalsetting, performance management, development and engagement; Typically has at least two direct reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.



Minimum Education and/or Training:



  • Bachelor's degree required.



Minimum Experience:



  • Minimum Experience: 5+ years of experience leading and influencing team
  • Proven experience driving department wide process improvement initiatives
  • Significant experience in contract and vendor management, including negotiations.
  • Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role.
