About the Department
NC State University's ComTech, within the Office of Information Technology, provides data networking and telecommunications services for the NC State campus community as well as managed telephony services to other UNC System organizations.

Communication Technologies engineers, deploy,s and maintains campus-wide electronic communications systems that make it possible for NC State students, faculty and staff to learn and work in an increasingly interconnected global community.

The responsibilities of the Software and Development team, specifically, include the engineering, development, and maintenance of a suite of Network Management and monitoring tools and their respective underlying systems.
Essential Job Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Utilize knowledge of systems development, using the LAMP stack, networking monitoring tools, network device interfaces including API's and SNMP, to create systems that support management of the campus network.
  • Develop and maintain software solutions to include conducting analysis, developing system and program requirements, document specifications, testing and implementation.
  • Serve as a resource to other members of technical team.
  • Create and maintain programming documents using required methodologies to aid in technical support of systems for which responsible. Possesses a strong proficiency in PHP/Laravel.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with nine credit hours in programming and three years of experience in Business Applications Consulting or Development OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.


All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications


  • LAMP stack and Python scripting

  • PHP Laravel
  • Basic knowledge of TCP/IP, VLAN, Switch/Port
  • Experience working with SNMP
  • Experience working with APIs
  • Database experience such as MySQL and PostgreSQL
  • Desire to constantly learn and ability to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and two years experience or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with a network monitoring system like AKiPS is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of PERL is a plus
  • Proficient knowledge of PHP/Laravel
